Influenza

Welcome back and Happy New Year!

I hope you all had nice holidays and got some good rest, because I'm sure you all know that the flu (influenza) is widespread in California right now.  This year, the main flu strain is particularly nasty, and flu shots aren't much protection against it, though you might not get as sick if you have had one.

The flu is primarily a serious respiratory infection.  It comes on rapidly and comes with fever, coughing, congestion, and other symptoms. People are typically pretty sick for a number of days.

I am writing to ask that if you do catch the flu, please do not come back to work too soon.  You are still contagious for 5-7 days afterward (children can be contagious longer), and can infect those around you. This is a serious illness, and we want to do our best to limit the spread.

Please also share this information with students and parents, encouraging everyone to stay home as long as necessary to get healthy. ...and remember!  WASH YOUR HANDS a lot and cover all coughs and sneezes!

Please remember to call our attendance line in case your child has an absence.  987-1450 ext 5100
I hope everyone stays healthy!
