US Map on the blacktop

If you have ever walked onto the Cobb campus one of the first things you'll notice is the huge map of the United States painted on the black top of our plaza area. The map has been weathered over the years and until last summer it had not been repainted since Larry Allen and his 5th grade class created it in 1987. I spoke with Larry about it recently and he told me about how the painstakingly drew a grid with chalk to guide this big map project. Over the summer Brian Hauntly took on the challenge to freshen up this icon on Cobb School. Of course he underestimated the amount of work it would take to follow the curves of the Hawaiian Islands or the wiggled and the waggled lines of Maine, but he completed some 10 hours later. We thank you Brian for all your hard work on this project and help make Cobb School a special place for our community.
