GREAT JOB!

Penny Wars Next Week!!!

Bring your loose change and support Cobb School!

Begins MONDAY, May 5th. Ends FRIDAY, May 9th.

Penny War jars will be set up for each class on the stage in the cafeteria. Bring in your change to boost your class and sabotage the others! All funds raised go to classrooms.

Penny War Rules:

Pennies and paper currency produce positive points.

Silver coins produce negative points and may be used to “attack” or sabotage other classes.

The class to collect the most points wins!

Please have your kids bring their money in a ziplock bag with their name on it to make sure that it makes it to the correct jar.

Which Class Will Win Penny Wars?

2025 Spelling Bee

Students in grades 2-5 will have the opportunity to participate in our school spelling bee this year.

Each grade will hold an informal qualifying bee based off of previous spelling words and grade level words (run by a teacher). The grade level bees will be held during the week of May 5th, at a time convenient for the class.

Each grade level will send

4 representatives to the all-school bee on May 30th.

If your student is selected to participate in the Bee on 5/30, a packet of words to study will be sent home on Friday, 5/9.  The all-school bee will be using this list of words.

The Garden Plot

“Why try to explain miracles to children when you can just have them plant a garden?”-Robert Brault

We are in full swing cleaning up. Last week we had a conversation about “weeds” and their place on this earth. The grass and the buds are growing! We planted cherry tomatoes, a new herb garden and tons of basil! 4 th and 5 th Grade utilized milk jugs as mini greenhouses. They planted cucumbers and our hypothesis is that we will FINALLY get large cucumbers in a short growing season here on Cobb.

This week we are adding new raspberry plants to our patch. Our Kindergarten class will plant this year's soup beans and enjoy hot popcorn from the harvest last year. We will also be tasting sauteed snap peas and discussing their seasonal nutrition value. We may even be making some magic garden wands!

REMINDERS:

Please dress kids “garden ready” on their class days. Closed toed shoes, clothing suitable for dirt,

weather appropriate gear, and sunscreen applied if needed.

Get your volunteer packet completed if you are interested in being a Garden Buddy. We would love to have parents come to classes and help out. I can tell you; it is really fun!

Check with your child’s teacher to find out when their garden class time is

Thank you!

Exciting News:

Free EDMO Afterschool Program has STARTED!!  :)

See registration information below…

Hello Cobb Mountain Families

We are excited to announce that Middletown Unified School District has partnered with EDMO to offer an afterschool program at Cobb Mountain ElementaryFeaturing a blend of academic support, hands-on STEAM projects, social-emotional learning activities and outdoor game time, kids in the program will have a blast socializing and connecting with their peers this school year. EDMO will start the afterschool program on January 6, 2025 and enrollment will be first come, first served.

Enrollment opens on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 12 pm.

Register your kiddo at the link below:

Cobb Mountain Elementary EDMO afterschool program 24/25 https://enroll.edmo.org/partner_programs/edmo-cobb-mountain-school-year-2024-2025

Program Information:

  • The EDMO program is free to all families who are a part of the Middletown Unified School District for the school year 2024-2025

  • Families need to fill out all forms regarding health and emergency information before their kiddo can attend the EDMO program, these are available on the registration portal after registration is complete.

  • Open spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.

  • Once the program is filled, we will have a waitlist option. Follow the directions on the registration page to join the waitlist and as spots become available, we will invite families to join based on their position on the waitlist.

  • The EDMO afterschool program runs from the end of the school day, no matter the time, and ends at 6:00 pm.

  • There is no bus transportation provided for the EDMO afterschool program. Families are required to arrange pick-up from the afterschool program each day.

  • This is a need-based program which means students are expected to attend 80% of the month. Excessive absences will result in warnings and dismissal from the program. In the case that a family has needs that extend outside the guidelines of this policy, those needs can be communicated and discussed with EDMO and district staff to determine the best plan of success for all parties.

  • If a student is dismissed from the program due to attendance, they will have the opportunity to be put on the waitlist to rejoin when a spot opens up.

  • To ensure kiddos gain the full benefits of learning, growth, and fun from the EDMO afterschool program, we highly encourage that students stay for the full hours of the program (until 6:00 p.m. each school day). However, this is not a requirement, and families are welcome to pick up their students earlierif needed.

We’re thrilled to bring this engaging and enriching program to our school community and can’t wait to see your kiddos thrive! Be sure to secure your spot early, and feel free to reach out with any questions. Let’s make this school year unforgettable with Cobb Mountain Elementary and EDMO!
